Sometimes the things that are free are those which cost the most.

Essay:
This past summer I was given the opportunity to work at a summer camp in Colorado. This camp is jejune in the activities offered to campers from six years old to sixteen years old. The camp runs in sessions of two weeks with four full two-week sessions through out the summer. This past summer while working at Geneva Glen Camp I was given the opportunity to be a counselor, being a counselor was the most rewarding job I’ve ever had and good ever ask for. While reading over the Dr. Parker’s quotes one stood out to me immensely, “A child convinced against his will is of the same opinion still”. The reason this one particular quote stood out to me the most was because while I was a counselor this summer I realized that sometimes all a kid needs to is to be noticed for something as simple as the catch he made in the baseball game or for being the dirtiest kid in the dorm. All it takes to make a kids day, week or even month is to be noticed for an accomplishment big or small and be praised and congratulated for it. At this summer camp it is our job to watch, take care of and play with are campers, yet something more magical seems to take place. Kids who are self conscious and not confident seem to gain the confidence and become more outgoing and dependent of themselves. Kids are our future and should be encouraged to be themselves and not be frightened or pressured to worry about what others think about them. At this summer camp kids can come and escape the hustle and bustle of every day live, escaping the peer pressure and being allowed to be themselves with out the often harsh judgment passed down by their superiors our their peers. Children these days lack the appreciation and attention that should be devoted to them. Kids these days seem more mature for there age, TV, the internet and ads all over the place are filled with more grown up messages then what would have been so twenty years ago. Life today is always rushed, children’s lives are empty of meaning and we far to often take for granted what a child thinks or feel. There should never be a missed opportunity to remind a kid of his full potential. When “A child is convinced against his will is of the same opinion still” sometimes all it takes is for a kid to be noticed for a split second to remind him of his full potential.
